LUXE WINTER TRENDS

LUXE WINTER TRENDS

July 26, 2018 | DESIGN TIPS & TRENDS

Winter’s chill has hit, but the colder temperatures are no excuse for being blue. Adding warmth and depth to your home interior with rich tones and soft, inviting textures will make you love winter like never before.  Here are my top 5 tips to warm up your home this season.

1. RICH MOODY HUES

During these colder months, deep rich shades are what dreams are made of: they command attention and have a timeless charm. Incorporating warm colours like mustard golds, rusty reds, earthy greens and deep navy will evoke a sense of comfort and soul, almost enveloping you into them. These rich tones pop when accented with softer colours, we’re talking on-trend blush, soft greys and crisp whites. Bold hues work well on all scales – from painted walls and wallpapers to accent pieces like ottomans, cushions, throws and accessories. If you find yourself hesitant to go bold, start small!

2. VELVET

Synonymous with luxe, this decadent but versatile fabric will make a statement in any space.  It’s continuing popularity means we are spoilt for choice in ways to incorporate it in our homes: beautiful velvet options are available for sofas, chairs, headboards, cushions and throws. Velvet feels delicate but is tougher that it looks, making it a great choice for pieces used by families every day.

3. TEXTURE ON TEXTURE

More is more when it comes to layering textures for winter. Cushions and throws are an easy way to cosy up your style without breaking the bank. Our go-to winter textiles are plush and soft – faux fur, chunky knits and sheepskins.  New Zealand sheepskins have made a comeback in a big way; simply draped over the arm of a chair or the back of your sofa or on the floor of a kid’s bedroom.

4. MUTED METALLIC GLAM

Brass is the perfect on-trend metal to accent your winter room — it adds shine without too much shimmer and makes the other rich tones pop even more. Metallics elements add interest to a space and can be used in all corners of your home, from statement lighting to tabletop accessories. For smaller rooms, adding a well-placed brass framed mirror can be a lovely way to add dimension and the perception of more space.

5. WARM INVITING SCENTS

Scent has a powerful effect on emotion so add depth to a room’s atmosphere and cue calm to the senses by adding a fragrant candle or two to your coffee table.  Guaranteed to provide a warm glow and amp up the cozy factor.  To ensure you get maximum burn time from your candle, always burn for a couple of hours when first lighting it – this allows the top layer of wax to melt completely ensuring even burning when next lit.
