BLACK TAPWARE | edgy yet elegant

black tapware

With a vast array of choice, tapware has been elevated from a functional must-have to an opportunity to add major style factor. Sexy black tapware has been a steady trend for some time now and shows no signs of slowing down. It makes a stylish and confident statement that is contemporary yet classic. Paired with white bathware to create a monochromatic room the contrast is striking and sculptural. Soften the contrast by combining with warm metallics such as copper and brass and the balance of timber tones. It will accentuate the veins in marble for a sophisticated look and works equally well with raw industrial elements of concrete and burnished metals. So, will it date? In my opinion, if it relates well to the other elements in the room, black has timeless style.

Marble

Marble has been trending for quite some time and is loved for adding a touch of luxury and sophistication to interior spaces. With increasing variations in shapes, patterns and colours available plus look alike materials offering budget friendly options, the popularity of marble looks set to continue. It lends itself to a multitude of uses – splash backs, bench tops, feature walls, furniture and flooring – and the natural clean elements of marble combine so well with other materials and colours. Think black cabinetry and accessories, metallic accents of gold, copper and brass and warmed up with wood furniture.

big bold florals

Florals in interior design may drag up images of Grandma’s living room but think again, florals are a blooming favourite that have an established place in the modern interior. Current trends are big and bold – from dramatic large scale prints and moody palettes to historic and vintage inspired botanicals. Either can be used in a variety of interior styles, classic to contemporary. Think wallpaper, upholstery, artwork, cushions and blankets, whether you are looking for a flower-power feature or a more subtle accent.

velvet

It’s safe to say that the velvet trend is a firm favourite in interior design right now. A rich and tactile fabric that brings luxe to any space, it can be casual or formal and always elegant. Velvet is a classic in interior design however colour becomes a key factor in modernising the look. Bold colour choices such as deep greens, blues and jewel tones bring a contemporary feel to a sofa or vintage chair. Or mix muted tones of grey, blush pinks and blue with marble and clean metals for a sleek Scandinavian look.
